Milwaukee Bucks…A Fun Team To Watch
In October of 1968, the New Milwaukee Bucks joined the National Basketball Association. As with most expansion teams, their first season was not very successful.
However, the Bucks made a good comeback the next year increasing their number of wins from 27 to 56. At the time, that was the largest reversal in the league. They made it to the Eastern finals that year but suffered defeat to the New York Knicks. Later seasons saw the Bucks to 13 division titles, two conference titles, and a Championship in 1971.
Off the court, the New Milwaukee Bucks are just as energetic as on the court. In the community, they have teamed up with Kapco Metal Stamping to form Kapco’s Corners, an organization that strives to improve the lives of area children through various community programs and organizations.
They participate and organize blood drives, holiday parties, and events to raise money to cure cancer. The Home Court Heroes program honors those that make outstanding contributions to improving life for area residents. They have also teamed up with Scholastic to raise enough money to buy books for schools in the area.
The Energee is the official dance team of the New Milwaukee Bucks. Along with the Seniorgee, and the Jr. Energee dance teams, they provide plenty of fun and entertainment during home games and at various community events throughout the basketball season. Of course they also have the Rim Rocker Dunk Team and the Bucks Wild Drumline to get the fans excited and amp up the crowd.
On October 18, 1977, the New Milwaukee Bucks’ biggest fan was born. Bango is a buck that appears at home games, in the community, and at NBA functions. He is known well throughout the area and the league, and performs all kinds of stunts and skits to excite and entertain the crowd. He was injured in 2009 during All-Star weekend when he fell through a hoop and tore his ACL. A video of the stunt hit Youtube shortly after and Bango was out for the rest of the season, only periodically showing up on the sidelines in a wheelchair.
The New Milwaukee Bucks call the Bradley Center home. With seating for more than 18,000 during NBA games, the Bradley Center is the fourth oldest arena in the NBA. Because of its age, the arena is facing increasing problems and is in need of renovation or replacement. The team’s owners were looking to build a new arena but there was little support for that and the idea never got off the ground. The more popular idea is to renovate the Bradley Center to bring it up to date, but so far, the funding has not been available.
New Milwaukee Bucks games are some of the most exciting entertainment you could ever hope to see. The dance and stunt teams, Bango, and the game itself all combine to make a night out you won’t soon forget.
